NHRC Initiates Monitoring/ Investigation of Thankot & Dhadhikot Incidents, 15 Jan 2005

Lalitpur, January 15, 2005. The National Human Rights Commission has initiated monitoring and investigation of incidents that occurred at Thankot in Kathmandu and Dhadhikot in Bhaktapur yesterday with focus on compliance to human rights and international humanitarian law.

In this regard, NHRC teams inspected the incident sites and inquired with local residents, eyewitnesses, security personnel and injured persons about the incidents.

Commissioners Sudip Pathak and Gokul Pokhrel and officers of the Commission were involved in the monitoring.

The Commission appeals to the CPN (Maoist) to immediately and unconditionally release the abducted police constable Bikram Kalika of the Area Police Office, Dhadikot, who was found to have been abducted after the incident by the CPN (M) from Dhadhikot after the incident that took place there.
