Re: Abduction & Threads
The Commission expresses its concerns over the information on the abduction of human rights activists in Surkhet, along with threats of amputating hands of journalists in Dailekh and imposition of fines of thousands of Rupees on them by the CPN (Maoist).

Recurrence of such activities involving abductions, threats and imposition of fines demonstrate a clear contradiction between the commitment expressed by the CPN (M) on 16 March 2004 to adhere to the Common Article 3 of Geneva Convention and international humanitarian law, and their implementation in reality. In spite of calling upon the CPN (M) on several occasions to refrain from such activities, the Commission is saddened by the recurrence of such activities. The Commission therefore reiterates its call to the CPN (Maoist) to respect human rights principles, undertake practical implementation of international humanitarian law in their activities, ensure humane treatment to the abductees, and their immediate release from captivity.
