NHRC team meets with CPN (UML) General Secretary Nepal, 24 Jan 2006
Lalitpur, January 24, 2006. A team of the National Human Rights Commission comprising of Commissioners Sudip Pathak and Dr. Ram Dayal Rakesh and NHRC officers met with Madhav Kumar Nepal, General Secretary of CPN (UML) at his residence where he has been under house arrest.
The team sought information about his condition and was informed by Mr. Nepal that he was barred from reading newspapers of his choosing.
The NHRC team also met with the leader of CPN (UML) Bharat Mohan Adhikari who has also been under house arrest and gathered information about his condition today.
The Commission met the leaders of CPN (UML) in the course of monitoring of human rights condition in the detention centers in Kathmandu valley as well as the condition of those under preventive detention. In the course of monitoring the detention centers, the Commission's team has already visited several detention centers in Kathmandu valley.
