NOTICE OF THE PRESS SECRETARIAT OF HIS MAJESTY THE KING

His Majesty the King has directed His Majesty's Government to undertake the following measures in keeping with the demands made by the people of the Mid-Western Development Region during His Majesty's visit to the region from February 5 to 21, 2004.

1. On issues relating to law and order and rehabilitation of victims of terrorism:

a. To adopt additional effective security measures in all the districts of the region to provide the people the sense of law and order in compliance with their wishes.

b. To adopt immediate measures to rehabilitate victims of Maoist terrorism and provide them with employment or self-employment.

c. To make necessary arrangements for the provision of treatment facilities and means of livelihood for those disabled by Maoist terrorism.

2. On development projects:

a. To expedite rural electrification in the districts of Surkhet, Dailekh, Jajarkot, Kalikot, Jumla, Salyan, Rukum and Rolpa by incorporating them under the eighth Rural Electrification Project.

b. To expedite construction of the Chhinchu-Jajarkot road by providing necessary security.

c. To complete construction of the Devisthal-Chaurjhari-Dolpa road, besides the Chhinchu-Jajarkot road, by providing necessary security.

d. To complete construction of the Surkhet-Jumla road within the stipulated time of two years by providing necessary security.

3. On regional headquarters:

a. To move to the regional headquarters of Birendranagar the regional offices which should have been located there. The regional offices of the Armed Police Force and Nepal Police to be relocated there within a month and other regional offices within six months.

b. To initiate immediately the construction of a regional hospital at Birendranagar, Surkhet and also ensure smooth functioning of health services by making available the necessary positions and resources at the district hospitals.

4. On herbs production:

a. To formulate and implement a programme, which involves the local people as well, in the production, processing and distribution of herbs.
