Maoist Attacked in School

The National Human Rights Commission expresses its serious concern over the bombings in the schools by the CPN Maoist, which has disrupted regular classes in schools in different parts of the Kingdom. The Maoists have damaged the property of Sunshine Boarding School of Bhairahawa, Everest Boarding Higher Secondary School of Kailali, Small Heaven Secondary School of Chitawan, Bageshowari Boarding Shool of Nepalgunj and Universal Boarding Scool of Pokhara during some days.

Such destructive activities aimed at schools result in adverse psychological impact as well as long-term impact on the students' education. The Commission has taken the incidents very seriously in the context of repeated appeals to the Maoist to respect human rights norms and international humanitarian law. The Commission appeals to the concerned parties not to encourage such activities that disturb peace in school area and calls upon ensuring schools and children as zones of peace.
