30 APRIL 2002

1. Terrorists Killed in Security Operations. Security forces (SF) killed 12(Twelve) terrorists in different parts of the country during its search operations on 29 April, Monday. During separate encounters with the armed terrorists the SF killed four in Ni Danda of Syangja district (Mid Nepal), two each in Durlung of Parbat (Mid Nepal), Syaule of Kailali (Far West), Kathi and Kaligandaki river junction area in Baglung (Mid Nepal), Jalbire of Sindhupalchok (East Nepal) and one in Suryapatuwa of Bardiya (West Nepal).

2. Arms and Equipment Recovered. The SF team recovered four guns from Fattepur of Saptari district.

3. Bomb Disposal. SF successfully defused two bucket-bombs, which the terrorists had placed below the road surface of Burtibang Road sector in Baglung district. Royal Nepalese Army though actively involved in counter insurgency operations, is also involved in various road construction projects in the country.

29 APRIL 2002

1. Terrorists Killed in Security Operations. Security forces (SF) killed 6(Six) terrorists in different parts of the country during its search operations on 28 April, Sunday. During separate encounters with the armed terrorists the SF killed two in Thawang of Rukum district (Mid west Nepal), and one each in Manpur of Dang (Mid West Nepal), Tuki forest of Gulmi, Bhimgitthe of Baglung (Mid Nepal), and Taraghari of Udayapur (East Nepal) district.

2. Arms and Equipment Recovered. The SF team recovered combat dresses, explosives and various sedative medicines from Charkhu area of Okheldhunga and, four guns from Titikhi area of Kapilbastu district.

3. Looted cash Recovered. SF recovered 38,531 Rs from the terrorists in Jitpur, Bara. The money, belonged to local villagers, was collected by Rural Development Office for the Village Development Fund. SF captured 3-armed terrorists. The money was later returned to the Office.

4. Maoist Terrorist Killed in a Premature Explosion. One terrorist was killed in a premature Socket Bomb explosion. The incident occurred when a group of terrorists try to carry out a bomb attack on a SF patrol, the socket bomb prematurely exploded and killed the terrorist in the Dhawa forest of the Gorkha district.

26 APRIL 2002

1. Terrorists Killed in Security Operations. Security forces (SF) killed 8 (eight) terrorists in different parts of the country during its search operations on 25 April, Thursday.

a. During separate encounters with the armed terrorists the SF killed three in Sri Gaun of Dang district (Mid west Nepal), two in Rumjatar of Okhaldunga (East Nepal) and one in Dobilla area of Parbat district.

b. Similarly the SF killed one maoist terrorist in a counter attack when a group of maoist terrorists attacked the security patrol in Tarku forest of Lamjung district mid Nepal, yesterday.

c. During road clearance operations SF killed one terrorist in Burtibang of Baglung district (Mid West). Encounter took place when a group of maoist terrorists were trying to damage the road.

2. Arms and Equipment Recovered. The SF team recovered combat dresses of maoist terrorists along with electrical appliances used in setting up ambushes, from Manthali area of Ramechhap district and three guns from Mangma area of Sankhuwasabha district.

3. Road Blocks Cleared. SF has reopened the road to traffic at Dumre-Beshishahar section of the feeder road in Lamjung district. The maoists terrorists had used tree-logs and rocks as roadblocks in various places.

1. Terrorists Killed in Security Operations. Security forces (SF) killed 10(ten) terrorists in different parts of the country during its search operations on 25 April, Thursday.

a. During encounter with the armed terrorists the SF killed two in Pipariya of Kanchanpur district, west Nepal; and one each in Chutre of Myagdi, Jamune bhanjyang of Kaski, Bojhe of Sindhuli, Achham, Chisapani forests of Lamjung and Syalpakha of Rukum districts.

b. During road clearance operations SF killed one terrorist each in Betrawati of Nuwakot and Bogatitar of Rasuwa districts. The one killed in Nuwakot carried the nom de guerre of Asim and he was involved in he assassination of an ex soldier in the same district.

2. Suspects Detained. SF has detained seven suspects in Ilam, three in Chitwan and one in Saptari districts for neccessary investigations.

3. Arms and Equipment Recovered. The SF team recovered four guns and socket bomb in Achham and one gun each in Siraha and Kanchanpur districts.

4. Humanitarian Assistance. Twelve year old Dhan Bahadur Tamang has been flown back to his home in Dolakha district, from Kathmandu in an army helicopter. He had earlier fallen from a tree near his home and was evacuated in an unconscious state by an army helicopter to Kathmandu. He was admitted on 4 April, 2002, and successfully treated by the army doctors in the army hospital and has fully recovered.

5. Road Blocks Cleared. SF has reopened the highway to traffic at Newarpani, Hetauda section of the Narayanghat – Hetauda national highway. The maoists terrorists had earlier blocked the road using tree-logs.

1. Terrorists Killed in Security Operations. Security forces (SF) killed 8(eight) terrorists in different parts of the country during its search operations on 23 April, Tuesday.

a. Seven terrorists were killed by the SF in the area Kavrechaur Jamkhola of Salyan district in west Nepal. The terrorists tried to use seventeen innocent children as human shields during the encounter but the SF rescued them safely. SF handed over all seventeen children to the concerned authorities in Surkhet. Two of the terrorists killed in the encounter carried noms-de-guerre of Biswas and Tiger.

b. Similarly in another encounter in Rolpa SF killed an armed terrorist named "Jaljala".

2. Terrorist Arrested. SF arrested one person in Hathigaunda in Kathmandu who was terrorising the local population with the petrol bomb he was carrying.

3. Bomb Disposal. SF located and successfully defused two bucket-bombs and one iron-pipe-bomb placed below the road surface of BP Highway being constructed by a Japanese construction company in Kabhre Bhanjayang in eastern Nepal. These bombs were planted by the maoists terrorists and targeted against the SF as they are regularly patrolling the area to provide security so that the road construction can be completed in time. SF has recovered 8 kg of explosives, 500 m of electrical cable, electrical detonators and other accessories from the site.

4. Arms and Equipment Recovered The SF team recovered large quantity of weapons, country made guns, explosives, combat dresses and electrical appliances during search operations from Dolkha, Kabhrepalanchok, Ramechhap and Sindhupalchok districts; confiscated 14 guns, pressure cooker bombs from Mangsima in Sankhuwasabha district; large quantity of sockets, drill machines from Patna area in Kapilbastu district and a 303 rifle with 227 bullets, socket bombs and grenades from Barpak in Gorkha district.

5. Humanitarian Assistance. Seriously wounded by the maoists attacks since two days Dil Bahadur Basnet of Narethanti of Baglung district was flown by a Royal Nepalese Army helicopter to the Zonal Hospital in Pokhara for treatment. Similarly an army aircraft is flying three people injured in a bus accident, in Arghakhanchi this morning, to the army hospital in Kathmandu for their treatment.

6. Road Blocks Cleared. In an attempt to disrupt the normal life, and make things difficult for the ordinary population, the maoists terrorists have been damaging roads and highways using bombs and roadblocks. SF has cleared similar roadblocks placed by the maoists terrorists in the Surkhet-Dailekh road. SF has repaired the bomb-damaged portion of Arniko highway in Khawa area of Kabhrepalanchok district. Traffic has resumed in those areas.

23 APRIL 2002

1. Terrorists Killed in Security Operations. Security forces (SF) killed 13 (Thirteen) armed terrorists in different parts of the country during its search operations on 22 April, Monday.

a. In Kanchanpur district, far west Nepal, SF killed five terrorists who were earlier involved in various disruptive activities around the district.

b. Similarly SF killed three armed terrorists in Rolpa, two each in Sankhuwasabha and Dang, and one in Jajarkot in separate search operations. Those killed in Sankhuwasabha belonged to a maoist cadre under going training there and others are believed to be active members of the so-called militant wing of the maoist terrorists.

c. Guns, socket bombs and electrical equipment used in ambushes were also seized from those sites.

2. Terrorists Arrested. SF captured six terrorists during its search operation in various Maoist strong holds of the country.

3. Bomb Disposal. SF bomb disposal (BD) team safely defused an improvised explosive device planted by the terrorists in Baneshwor area in the Kathmandu district.

4. Arms and Equipment Recovered The SF team recovered large quantity of weapons, explosives, socket bombs, gas cylinder bombs, food grains and electrical appliances during search operations from various parts of the country.

5. Humanitarian Assistance. An unconscious seven-year-old child Bikash Chapagain of Dandakharka in Dolkha district, East Nepal was rescued by a helicopter of the Royal Nepalese Army to Kathmandu as all the traffic was affected by the bandh called by the maoists terrorists. The child is under going treatment at the Birendra Sainik (Army) Hospital in Kathmandu.

1. Terrorists Killed IN Security Operations. Security forces (SF) killed nine armed terrorists in different parts of the country during its search operations on 21 April, Sunday.

a. In Bardiya district, west Nepal, SF killed four terrorists who were earlier involved in an ambush of SF patrol in which 1 officer and 4 other ranks had lost their lives.

b. Similarly SF killed three armed terrorists in Udaypur and two armed terrorists in Rolpa in separate search operations. Those killed were believed to be important members of the local level committees.

2. Terrorists Arrested. SF wounded and captured one terrorist during its patrol activity in Sankhuwa Sabha district in eastern Nepal. He had attacked the SF patrol with socket bombs. No casualties reported on the SF side.

3. Explosives Recovered. SF recovered 40 kg of explosives, which the terrorists had placed in a "Taulo" (a large cooking pot) in Dang, west Nepal.

4. Bomb Disposal. SF bomb disposal (BD) team safely defused an improvised explosive device planted by the terrorists in Gabahal area in Lalitpur district. The SF team also recovered electric detonators, explosives, chemicals, metal bearings and seven 1.5 volts batteries from the area.
